Brief History of Delhi
Delhi has always been the capital of the Indian subcontinent due to its strategic location. During the Mughal era “Shajahanbad” was her name and remained so until 1857. When British started to rule India they shifted the capital from Delhi to Kolkata for shipping purpose. But our eligible freedom fighters changed it back to Delhi in 1920. Most recently called as New Delhi, is the administrative capital of independent India.
The stories of this ancient city echo loudly in the mystic walls of the city built by Mughal emperor Shahjahan (1628-1658). This is the same place where the first prime minister of independent India got married and started a new life.
The remains of this magnificent city that was designed by the daughter of this great emperor, Jahanara are distinctly visible in Chandni Chowk. This is the main place in the city that deals with many fares and markets for which Delhi is still known.
The transition of India from a backward to a developing country has been witnessed by this city because of the political and cultural networks in it. In any downfall the culture and integrity of Delhi have been unhindered and still maintains the heritage, cultural and religion diversity. Delhi is the place on the face of the earth that demonstrates a sweet amalgamation of ancient, medieval and modern times.
Delhi is famous for its proximity to the worlds wonder, The Taj Mahal. Monuments which are centuries old and belong to different dynasties still stand tall. There are some alterations made but those are only to preserve the historical significance of Delhi. Delhi is a dock of religious places, temples, shrines, dargha, gurdwara and the list goes on. It is a wonderful collection of historic ruins that give your eyes a soothing pleasure when you visit this land of stories in the form of forts, tombs, havelis and bazaars.
